You Are A Flaming Homo

Gay, queer, lesbo... you're familiar with all the terms. You are most likely homo- or bisexual, or at least affiliated somehow with the lifestyle. You may like anime, but is it only for the yaoi and bishounen? It must be admitted that you have excellent taste in clothes...

I seem to have started the weekend (vacation time) early. Haven't heard from Blockbuster, still not on the Dept of Health list to take the EMT test, not quite out of cash... Ah, the life of a Diva - the hectic social whirl, the emotional drama, the beautiful women stalking me... still, we must do it for the fans. Thank you. Thank you very much.
Am I too old for this? Probably, but what the hell^H^Hck

From a mailing list that I'm on. Poster is 'smedith'.
Quote:
There is a lot of untruth about the relationships Gays have with their families. Some will say everything if fine and the family *accepts* them for who they are (and their partner!). The facts are "some" families tolerate their Gay offspring and it ends with that.
Its as though we have no history when we tell non-Gays we are Gay. You will get some inane remark such as, "Oh, what
you are is your own business, it doesn't bother me." Well, it should "bother" them.
What family member has asked an *out* Gay relative these kinds of questions: Has it been difficult for you to be Gay? Have you found a partner who loves you? Have you been beaten up because your are Gay? Do you daily feel the sting of rejection because of being Gay? Are you lonely? Do you think we've been supportive of you? Naw, it aint going to happen, folks...just as it will never be the brother of a Gay man who packs up his kids and says, "Lets go visit Bob." Bob will always have to do the visiting.
End quote. Food for thought, eh?

Busy, busy! I went shopping today with a gift certificate, and got some much needed clothes. Also applied for a job at Blockbuster, as I still am not up on the list at Tx Dept of Health to take the certification exam for EMT-B. It can take up to a month, so it would be nice to have some income coming in. Blockbuster is devious: they have you take a psychological test to see how well you might serve them and their nefarious ends. I hope I passed.
I had planned on some more shopping with my friend L. tomorrow morning, but she's having car trouble and promises to be in a foul mood, so we've put it of til Saturday. I need an ink cartridge for my printer & several other Wal Mart type items.
I have been putting my computer together. I moved in September, and am just now attaching the scanner and zip drive. The computer desk sits outside my kitchen, and most of the equipment is in the kitchen. It's a good thing I have a lot of storage space.
I took a long, refreshing nap from about 3pm to 7pm. I hope this is not a sign of depression. I feel ok. I'm taking my antidepressant.

I'm having a restful New Years Day. Got up early for a night-owl friend to come over after work and pick up her Solstice gift.
I bathed Binky the Wonder Dog, and sprayed her with Baby Dog (baby powder) scent from Cardinal Laboratories, the makers of the Crazy Dog line of grooming products. Binky has their Green Apple spray, too, for sportswear. They have a neat web site, with tips on picking the right groomer & the right trainer for your dog. There's also a section on 'what the canine cranium reveals about breeds' and fun little lists and quizzes.
I've been reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West for the past couple of days. It was slow going at first, but things have picked up, and it's quite engrossing. Here's a blurb from the publisher:
Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to be the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, a smart, prickly and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil.
Here's another one: From Los Angeles Times
It's a staggering feat of wordcraft, made no less so by the fact that its boundaries were set decades ago by somebody else. Maguire's larger triumph here is twofold: First, in Elphaba, he has created (re-created? renovated?) one of the great heroines in fantasy literature: a fiery, passionate, unforgettable and ultimately tragic figure. Second, Wicked is the best fantasy novel of ideas I've read since Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast or Frank Herbert's Dune. Would that all books with this much innate consumer appeal were also this good. And vice versa.
Sounds pretty neat, huh?=) I was never a huge Wizard of Oz fan, but that doesn't seem to be necessary to enjoy this book. I'm only about half way through. I'll let you know how it goes.

Something to think about at the turn of the year (found on Lucy's Blog)
The Old man and the Starfish
There once was a young man walking along the beach. As he walked he could see an old man in the distance. As the old man got closer he saw that every couple of feet, he would bend down and pick up a starfish and toss it back into the ocean.
The young man was curious and stopped to ask the old man what he was doing. “Well, you see there was a terrible storm last night which washed hundreds of starfish onto the shore,” the old man replied, “you see if these starfish don’t get back into the water they will die.”
The young man began to laugh, “that is ridiculous, there are hundred and hundreds of starfish on shores all over the world, what possible difference can you make?”
The old man smiled as he reached down and picked up another starfish. He tossed it back into the sea and looked at the young man and said… “I made a difference to him.”

Saw the most amazing movie today: Series 7: The Contenders. It's about a Reality TV program called The Contenders, whose participants are drawn at random from the general population, and whose goal is to kill all 5 of the other contenders. The current champion is a 9 months pregnant woman. Edge of your seat excitement, many random 'HA!' moments happening, and great characters. Just the best, most engrossing thing I've seen in years. And with a fabulous suprise ending. As one imdb.com review puts it: 'This movie totally rocks!!!! You have to see it!!'
