Today is the first day...

I passed. I'm a Certified EMT now. Whoop!

Unfortunately, my other real life is intruding: I have 2 tests on Tuesday in Anatomy & Physiology. Oops. Who's been studying? Not me. I've been busy... Also have to attend those other classes I signed up for. Cash is not a problem yet, so I will have some time for studying.

What Badgers Eat

I've been sitting here feeding beer to a badger for about 10 minutes. The urge to study is Just Not There. I want to take a day off from stressing about my mother, stressing about my EMT test, stressing about missing class to take tests and take Mom to the hospital... I am tired of stressing. Maybe I can go over to the sofa and finish reading a chapter in A&P. Or maybe I'll just sit here and mess around on the computer some more.

Rosie's Open Book?
In Rosie O'Donnell's upcoming memoir, talk TV's purported Queen of Nice talks about the death of her mother, being gay, her estrangement from her father...Er, wait a second, rewind on that second item...

Is Rosie officially coming out?

That's what the wags have been wagging about for weeks, first in the supermarket tabs, then on Sunday in the New York Daily News, when a source was quoted as saying that, in O'Donnell's Find Me, due out April 23, the comedian "talks about her relationships with women and having a girl breaking her heart in college."
How to seem smarter

The goal behind this painless four-step plan is to seem smarter without having to read any books, listen to classical music, or depend on crutches like word-of-the-day toilet paper. By making a few minor modifications to your behavior, you will give the impression to those around you that you are smarter--not only smarter than you were before, but, more importantly, smarter than they are.
the sweet smell of success

Should be getting results by Friday or Monday, but I ACED that sucker. =) My friend A, whose wife C is a Paramedic and works at So. Austin Hospital, was there, and we sat together. He started telling me all the things he had memorized (all the numbers that had ever appeared in the class or text, for example), and that he had worked from the CD ROM that came with our textbook. I'm just, 'well, my mom's been in the hospital, so I just kind of went over the notes; didn't open the textbook at all.' Turns out I did fine to study that way. There were more questions on kidlets than I expected, but I believe I got them right. It depends on how everybody else did, of course, but I think I might have gotten the highest grade of the people there. I was very sure on most of the questions. Finished with a 120 question test in 90 minutes. Felt really relaxed the whole time, too. I was just ready. I had done my best in the time that was given to me.

Of course, now I have all this reading to catch up with my current classes, and a test next week to prepare for. I can handle it, though. I got through the tough stuff: now it's time for the day to day grind of pumping out some A's and getting into the Paramedic program. I have to take the reading/math test, too. I'll probably do that week after next. Should be no sweat.

Ah, champagne is sooo good. =)

pre-test panic

EMT Certification exam is tomorrow at noon in Temple, Texas. It's supposed to be 1 1/2 hour drive, so I'm aiming to leave 2 1/2 hours before test time. My anxiety level is off the scale. I've printed out directions. I've been studying this morning. I'll shower tonight so I can just roll out of bed and go tomorrow. Got my music to drive by picked out: some nice Bach, I thought. I'll be taking a Jonathan Kellerman to read. I've forgotten the name of it, but it's got a Spiderco knife on it, which I take as a good sign. I've found mine which was misplaced, and I'll be taking it with me. Little talismans for luck also include a piece of pink jasper with a rabbit painted on it and a smooth piece of malachite. I'm tempted to bring my dog, but that seems a little excessive. But only a little.
