VUMC Emergency Medicine: Photographs
These are really interesting. Everything from 'sore finger' to 'anal lesions'. It gives you a photo and history, then a click of the link reveals the diagnosis.

oh, dear, oh, dear...

I called a local transport service (non-911 ambulance calls) yesterday, and they seem interested in hiring me. Said I just needed to get a copy of my 3 year driving record from the DPS, so I did that. It doesn't have my speeding tickets on it, which is nice. I usually get one per year. Well, maybe every other year. The last two I got weren't on the report, though, so I'm not sure it's worth the $6 I had to pay for it.

I have decided to go in and officially apply for the job on Friday. Spring Break is next week, and I'm planning to go to Houston to visit with my Mother. I will be 'available' for employment the week after that. Do I seem less than excited about this? Transport service is BORING. If it's not boring, it's terrifying, for example if you're in the back of the ambulance by yourself and the patient starts attacking you and you're 15 minutes from San Antonio. EMT-Basics are very limited as to the medications they can administer. There are six: oral glucose, aspirin (for chest pain), charcoal (for poisoning), epinepherine, albuterol nebulizer, and metered dose inhalers for asthma.

I asked the woman in charge of the Paramedic Program how they decide who gets into each class, and it's first come, first in, vs. by merit. She said everyone has already had to meet the standards of certain test scores and a grade of B or better in EMT-B, so they just go by who turned their application in first. I was right before the deadline, so I don't think Summer looks too likely. Maybe the other people want Fall day classes. Who knows?

more on the Yates trial
Psychiatrist didn't see troubling signs in Yates (AP). However, my sister, the Good psychiatrist, did see those troubling signs, and she's quoted in this story at USA Today. I'm so proud. =)

Addendum: She's also all over the news and the wire services. She hates all this -- says no one has quoted her correctly yet.
